Holyfield Wins, Title Shot Next?

Evander Holyfield beat Lou Savarese in a relatively exciting 10-round decision Saturday night, possibly earning him a shot at one of the heavyweight titles.  Holyfield won by scores of 99-87, 98-90, 96-91, and scored two knockdowns of Savarese.  Apparently, beating cats like Jeremy Bates, Fres Oquendo, Vinny Maddalone, and Savarese puts you in line for a title shot these days.  Let’s not forget, this is the same “Real Deal” that got embarrassed by Larry Donald just two and a half years ago.  Don’t let these wins over punching bags fool you into thinking that the 44-year old is a legitimate contender.

Also, in real boxing news, Alexander Povetkin beat that same Larry Donald earlier in the day in Russia to go to 13-0, 10KOs.  At just 27, the Olympic Champion is rightfully in line for a title shot after just 13 pro fights.  Keep an eye on him.
