Nonaire Shocks Darchinyan!
Nonito Donaire knocked out Vic Darchinyan with a perfect left hand in the fifth round tonight to shock the flyweight champion and claim the title. Nonaire was the better fighter throughout the match, outboxing the champ and counterpunching very effectively. Darchinyan tried to unload a huge left hand early in the fifth, but Nonaire landed his own perfect left hand that dropped Darchinyan instantly. Darchinyan tried to get up, stumbling onto his hands, then falling face first into the ropes, before it was waived off at :38 of round five.
After the fight Darchinyan asked for a rematch, while claiming that he didn’t think he was knocked down, and wasn’t hurt. Nonaire won the IBF and IBO flyweight titles.
