UCLA hired Rick Neuheisel as their new football coach, which will inevitably lead to the Bruins being on probation. Neuheisel’s college coaching record is impeccable, with two teams coach, and two teams receiving probation.
After high-tailing from Colorado in 1998, after four seasons, the Buffaloes were placed on two years probation for over 50 recruiting violations by Neuheisel. Then, upon arriving in Washington, the Huskies had to deal with the probation that Neuheisel himself was penalized for his role in the Colorado fiasco. He topped that off for getting fired for participating in an off-campus March Madness pool, which later turned out to be one of the stupidest firings of all-time. Not only did UW expressly permit their folks to participate in such off-campus pools, but then they had to pay out $4.5 million for the wrongful termination of Neuheisel.
Neuheisel went 66-30 as a college coach, with two tenures of four years. Will he see any of his recruits graduate at UCLA? I say no. The bottom line for UCLA is that they could hire Jesus himself to coach, but they’re not going to create a consistent winner as long as Pete Carroll is running things down the road.
My prediction is 36-12 in four years, followed by taking a “better” job, and UCLA being on probation in 2012 for his violations.
