2007 NFL Superlatives

Half the fun of any season is making predictions and giving awards. Since my predictions went to shit, I’ll try my hand at the awards. You can’t go wrong if you only use hindsight.

  • NFL MVP: Tom Brady

Really quite an obvious choice. I know that Brett Favre got one vote in the real voting, but when you have a year like Brady did, you deserve to take home every trophy that you are eligible for. Runners up: Favre, Randy Moss.

  • Offensive Player of the Year: Tom Brady

See above. Runners up: Moss, LaDainian Tomlinson

  • Defensive Player of the Year: Patrick Willis

Willis led the league by 33 tackles as a rookie. That’s a lot. Runners up: Antonio Cromartie, Jared Allen.

  • Offensive Rookie of the Year: Adrian Peterson

Peterson made a strong case for being the best running back in the game this year. Pretty good for a rookie. Also claimed the single-game rushing record. Could have won rushing title if he didn’t hurt his knee. Runners up: Marshawn Lynch, Dwayne Bowe.

  • Defensive Rookie of the Year: Patrick Willis

See above. Runners up: LaRon Landry, Leon Hall.

  • Coach of the Year: Bill Belicheck

I’m sorry, but if you go 16-0, you get coach of the year. Some may think he’s an ass, or he’s arrogant, but really, who are we to hold that against his coaching skills?

  • Comeback Player of the Year: Preist Holmes

The minute he put a uniform on this year, Holmes locked up the Comeback Player award. Unfortunately, it didn’t end any better this time around, but a great comeback nonetheless. Runners up: Brett Favre, Kurt Warner.

Since I can’t completely mangle postseason awards (at least not to the extent of preseason picks), I present these with pride. But I will be back to screw up my preseason picks for the NFL in August. And I’ll mangle my baseball picks in March.
