Hatton Wants Two Fights, Then Mayweather Rematch

Ricky Hatton says he wants to fight twice in the next year before hopefully landing a rematch with Floyd Mayweather in 2009. The plan is to fight Juan Lazcano in his next fight, then fight Paulie Malignaggi after that in New York. If he wins both of those, he feels he’ll have earned another shot at Mayweather. No word on what Junior Witter or Miguel Cotto think of all of this.

Michael Buffer will be back in the ring next week to announce the Bernard Hopkins – Joe Calzaghe fight. Buffer has been out for a bit while having cancerous tumors removed from his throat and neck. He may annoy me to no ends, but I wish him a speedy and healthy recovery.

The Miami Dolphins have reportedly begun negotiations with Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long. You see, Oakland, you see how you negotiate before week 8 of the season with the top pick?

Baseball season is really here now, and I can tell because of the enormous quantities of great Jayson Stark columns on the ESPN.com. He’s good at writing about baseball.
