Wie Latest Victim of Golf’s Dumbest Rule

News and Links for July 20, 2008…

Michelle Wie was disqualified from a tournament she was doing quite well in this week for no good reason. There was an actual reason, but it’s not a good one. She forgot to sign her scorecard before leaving the scoring area. So she lost a sporting event for failing to sign a scorecard. No rule breaking that gave her any advantage, just a simple rule that exists for no reason than to cause problems. I’m not much of a Wie fan, but no golfer should be DQ’d for something so stupid.

Patrick Hruby over at ESPN’s Page 2 has a fantastic article about the things that sports video games just can’t get right. As someone who has spent at least 20% of my adult life playing Madden and College Football, he’s right on.

Francisco Liriano wants to know why he’s still in the minors, and his agent wants an investigation into the matter.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao may actually happen. I’ll buy it, but I won’t be happy about it. Terrible matchup for both.
