News and Links for October 6, 2008…
For the first time in school history, Ball State is in the top 25. Speaking of rankings, how the hell is Vanderbilt ranked behind Florida and Georgia? Ridiculous.
Speaking of rankings, Notre Dame is 4-1 and unranked for the first time in school history. Saturday vs. North Carolina is a win-and-you’re-in game for the Irish.
Chase Daniel said that a Cornhusker spit on him on Saturday. Bo Pelini said he couldn’t find anything on film. Of course, the film likely shows no trace of Nebraska’s defense either, but I assure, they did attempt to play on Saturday. UPDATE: Every Day Should Be Saturday may have found the spitter. But still no sign of the defense.
HBO’s Boxing After Dark has finally found the kind of fighters it should be showing, having been abandoned for years in favor of bigger names. The show is about rising prospects in good fights. They’ve got the rising prospects, now they just need to match them with some guys that will fight back. This weekend featured three rising stars in Yuriorkis Gamboa, Alfredo Angulo, and Sergio Martinez. Angulo and Martinez were one-sidedly dominant, while Gamboa was stunned (from an elbow), but extremely exciting. All three fights though were head and shoulders above Kimbo Slice’s pathetic performance.
A Filipino lawmaker says that Manny Pacquiao will get pulverized against Oscar De La Hoya. At least someone in the Philippines is calling it how it is.
Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News takes issue with HBO’s love-fest for Shane Mosley in his lackluster defeat of Ricardo Mayorga last month.
The WNBA season is over. I honestly didn’t know it even started. When they’re done, who got next?
