News and Links for October 22, 2008…

Joba Chamberlain’s (suspicion of) DUI followed a night out at the local nudie-bar, where he paid his $3 cover charge, got into an altercation with a Red Sox fan (started with a cellphone picture and followed by Red Sox/Yankees insults), ran up a $145 tab (tipped $100 on top of it), was rockin’ an open container in the car when he got pulled over, and blew a .134 on the Breathalyzer. You see, that’s what makes this kid special. Most athletes are waiting until they’re in their 30’s for a night like this, but this phenom pulled it off at just 23-years old. My favorite part of this whole thing is that it seems the NY Daily News sent a reporter to cover this story, who retraced Joba’s footsteps, going from bar to stripclub to “reinact” the crime. Literally, interviewing strippers just before they go onstage. Awesome.

The Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods/Tom Brady/A-Rod of bull riding is retiring at just 29. The man in my Internet machine said I’m supposed to care.

Michael Vick is expected to enter a guilty plea to state dogfighting charges in Virginia, which may get him released to a halfway house as early as Jan. 20. He is expected to be released on Jul. 20.

Rodney Harrison’s career is likely over. I think a lot of us knew that from the look on his face as he waved to the crowd while being carted off.

Tony Romo will miss another game. This Cowboys season went from amazing to amazingly bad in a span of four weeks.

Emmitt Smith says that Matt Cassel hasn’t earned his “rites of patches.”
