Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was charged with insider trading by the SEC, with Cuban allegedly selling his entire stake in Mamma.com the day before an announcement sent prices down nine percent. The sale saved Cuban close to $750,000. Cuban says that the government’s claims are false.
A 16-year old girl was drafted to play professional baseball in Japan, based on her possession of what is a wicked side-armed knuckleball. I made a girl player in Baseball Stars on the old Nintendo that threw that pitch and it really is unhittable.
The New York Mets may be going after Bobby Jenks instead of K-Rod? Apparently, the Mets brass thinks Jenks has better stuff, and at 28 and making only $550,000 a year, is a better option. Since they should have learned their lesson in the Victor Zambrano fiasco, I hope the Mets think long and hard before selling away all of their future talent for one pitcher.
Lennox Lewis’ former trainer Emanuel Steward thinks that Lewis and Vitali Klitschko have unfinished business and should get in the ring to settle it. This is as close as I’ve heard of anyone in Lewis’ circle being supportive of a rematch with Klitschko, but I still don’t think there’s any chance we ever see Lewis in the ring again.
The powers that be in harness racing are discussing a plan to help keep the sports stars running past their three-year old season. The plan would be to only allow horses sired by five-year olds into the major stakes races. This would keep the superstars racing at four, allowing the possibility of some big time races between the sports elite youngsters and the proven vets. Imagine seeing Somebeachsomewhere vs. Mister Big in 2009, or Deweycheatumnhowe vs. Corleon Kosmos and Arch Madness next year. It would be fantastic for the sport.
Speaking of Somebeachsomewhere, want to see a freak of a horse race? This track was rated three seconds slow, and it was the fastest race of the night by four seconds. This horse is good at running fast.
