The proposed fight between heavyweights Vitali Klitschko and David Haye is apparently off after Klitschko’s agent said he would be fighting his mandatory challenger, Juan Carlos Gomez. Instead, now it appears that Wladimir Klitschko is in the mix to land the Haye fight.
Tommy Morrison is trying to fight in Australia, but their health people (rightly) aren’t likely going to allow it without him submitting to in-depth health evaluations and HIV tests. Morrison has been claiming for years that he falsely tested positive for the HIV and is now clean, but has refused to take the tests to prove it.
The Utah Attorney General is looking into filing a federal antitrust lawsuit, saying that the BCS has a monopoly on the national championship and that not all of the BCS eligible teams are really eligible. The argument is that the BCS unfairly puts schools like Utah “at a competitive and financial disadvantage.” Oh please let this work. Not only would this legally force a playoff, but the idiots in charge of the BCS may actually have to pay for their idiocy.
The May 2 mega-fight between pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquiao and 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton will take place in Las Vegas. There were rumors of England, but in the end, Vegas offered the most potential money for both parties.
Somebody is giving Carl Pavano $1.5 million? To pitch? I hope you know what you’re getting into, Cleveland.
Scott Boras has managed to overprice Manny Ramirez from two more teams, almost guaranteeing that he will end up in New York. At this point, unless his price comes down, no one else can afford to even negotiate with him.
