Links: Myron Rolle Passes on NFL

News and Links for January 14, 2009…

Florida State defensive back and Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle is passing on a potential career in the NFL — for now. He has instead chosen to accept his Rhodes Scholarship and will study at Oxford, rather than take a shot in the NFL draft where he was expected to be a day one pick. I think it’s safe to say that this is the only time that this decision has ever had to have been made, at least at Florida State.

American Sportscasters Online chose their 50 greatest sportscasters of all time. While I can’t argue Vin Scully at number one, I would have moved Ernie Harwell up from 16 to somewhere in the top six or seven, and at no point would I have allowed Joe Buck on the list (#31). I also think Bob Costas at number six is a stretch. He’s great when he calls games, but he’s done about three in the last 15 years. He’ll be remembered as a great studio host, not a great sportscaster. Other than that, pretty solid list.

Things are not good for Knicks center Eddy Curry, who is apparently at the center of a sexual harassment suit filed by his former driver, a man named David Kuchinsky. Allegedly Curry not only propositioned the man on multiple occasions and asked him to touch him while nude, but he also called him quite a few racial slurs and pointed a loaded gun at him on multiple occasions. That’s quite an organization they’re running there in New York.

Le Anne Schreiber brings it once again as the Ombudsman over at the Worldwide Leader. Can we just start a campaign to put her in charge of the network now? You can’t tell me she wouldn’t make things better over there.
