News and Links for January 21, 2009…

Manny Pacquiao has said that he is willing to accept a 55-45 split to make the fight with Ricky Hatton for May 2. Even though a 50-50 split was agreed to, Pacquiao later reneged on the initial offer and demanded a 60-40 split in his favor, despite history showing that Hatton is the main financial provider for this fight. While I am happy that the fight will likely happen, I am really hoping that Hatton and his team stand their ground and don’t give in to Pacquiao’s bullying. Hatton is the fighter with other options here, not Pacquiao.

According to the Baltimore Sun’s Ravens Insider blog, Ray Lewis may be getting some attention this offseason from the Dallas Cowboys. Lewis will be a free agent, and the Cowboys are expected to offer him a three-year deal worth between $27 and $30 million, with $25 million guaranteed. The Ravens, of course, could franchise him and keep him instead. I have a hard time seeing him leave that city at this point in his career.

A hockey fan won $1 million when the Chicago Blackhawks scored at exactly the 10:00 mark of the second period on Monday. This was part of a promotion from the Illinois lottery that if a Blackhawk player scored at exactly the 10:00 mark of the second period, a fan would win a million bucks.

Speaking of crazy hockey news, Claude Lemieux is making a comeback.

Edison Miranda is calling out Jermain Taylor. Miranda is apparently looking to make it a solid 0-4 against top level opponents, and is apparently hoping for a third consecutive brutal knockout in such a fight.
