Cowboys Send T.O. Packing

lukekohler.com: Latest post

The Dallas Cowboys released Terrell Owens Wednesday night, ending another term with another team where T.O. didn’t come out of it looking good.

Rumors have been flying for the last month that Dallas could cut the troublesome receiver, particularly since an effort seems to be being made to bring the locker room more together. Owens has often been considered…tough to work with might be the right phrase.

Owens was run out of San Francisco for his inability to coexist with quarterback Jeff Garcia. From there, he went to Philadelphia in 2004 where he again put up great numbers but couldn’t coexist with quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Now his time in Dallas comes to an end after a season in which he had relationship issues with quarterback Tony Romo, as well as tight end Jason Witten and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

Don’t expect the Dallas offense to miss a beat with the return of the completely underused Roy Williams at receiver, to go along with Witten.

Perhaps there actually is something to Jerry Jones trying to clean up the team, as the Cowboys will certainly pay for Owens’ departure.

As per ESPN.com:

“The Cowboys paid Owens a $12 million signing bonus just last year, included as part of a new four-year, $34 million deal. Dallas will take a roughly $9 million salary cap hit with the release of Owens.”

Not that Jones has ever been concerned about money, but it means something when a player is released this early in such a rich contract.

With the February release of Adam Jones, the Cowboys have taken two vital steps to getting their team back on the right track. With the amount of raw talent on that team, it’s amazing they can’t win a playoff game. Perhaps getting a more together locker room is the solution.

Unfortunately for Jerry Jones, it’s the only solution you can’t buy.
