No matter how good a round, fight, or series of fights is, it inevitably is judged against the displays put on by Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward between May of 2002 and June of 2003.

This may be the single greatest round of boxing in the last 20 years.

At the time, it was great because my team made an unbelievable comeback — down by two, two outs, bottom of the tenth inning.

Only as I got older did I grow to appreciate that game for the pain and suffering it caused Red Sox fans. As a child, I had no idea about the (then) 68 year Series drought in Boston. I didn’t care. For anyone that grew up in New Jersey or New York in that era, the ‘86 Mets defined your young baseball life.

Combining the ‘86 Mets with Vin Scully and Nintendo is just as good as you imagine it could be.

Sure, Clemens and Johnson whiffed 20, but I’ve never seen an overall game pitched as well as Kerry Wood’s game against the Astros on May 6, 1998.

Here are all 20 K’s in a condensed version. It’s great to watch this way as you can hear the excitement build in both the announcers voices and the crowd.
