The NCAA is following the lead of the No Fun League, and is looking to update their touchdown celebration penalties. They want to take points off the board for taunting before getting into the paint, making the previously dead-ball foul into a live-ball foul. This should be great once an uppity official decides that a necessary dive into the endzone was showboating, and penalizes the team. They’re 20-year old kids, suck it up and let them have some fun.

Antonio Margarito and trainer Javier Capetillo have had their licenses revoked by the California State Athletic Commission after a hearing about the substance removed from Margarito’s glove. Margarito was found to have a hard, plaster like substance in his hand wraps prior to his bout with Shane Mosley, and despite Capetillo’s attempt to jump on the grenade, and Margarito’s attempt to claim ignorance, the ruling was revocation.

Miguel Tejada was charged with lying to congressional investigators about his steroid use, and faces up to a year in jail for the misdemeanor. More than likely, Tejada will get a lighter sentence in exchange for his guilty plea. No word on charges for lying about his age.

ESPN gave Scott Van Pelt a surprise vacation package when they suspended him for comments about Bud Selig that he made on his radio show. Apparently, Van Pelt was all over the Commish’s $18 million salary, and how a man that makes so much can still look like that. I don’t see the problem. Sounds accurate to me.

Speaking of ESPNers getting into some trouble, First Take analyst and former Atlanta Falcon Jamal Anderson was arrested for felony cocaine possession when he was caught snorting coke off the back of a toilet. He also had some weed.

Might we see Ichiro pitching in the World Baseball Classic? We just might.

Sports Media Journal looks at the coverage of the A-Rod/steroids story this weekend, and how MLB Network established itself instantly as a major news outlet with its coverage. ESPN is on notice.

In what looks like a can’t miss idea, another new football league is set to launch. Might the UFL knock off the NFL? As surely as the XFL, USFL and Arena Football did.

Vic Darchinyan had his way with Jorge Arce Saturday night, winning all but one round on all the scorecards before the doctor insisted that Arce had had enough after the 11th round. Darchinyan has cleaned out that weight class about as much as any modern weight class can be cleaned out. Nothing really left for Vic at 115, so look for him to move up to 118 later this year.

On the Showtime card Saturday, they announced that Jermain Taylor and Carl Froch will meet up on their network in April. That is great news for boxing fans. I don’t know exactly what happened to make this fight happen, since it was all but dead a week ago, but I’m thankful.

After a brief bidding war, HBO won the rights to show the May 2 mega-fight between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao. That’s good news, since a fight of that magnitude needs the best calling it and the best production, both of which come from HBO. It will air on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Kobe, with help from Lamar Odom, beat Lebron.

Bob Costas and the MLB Network got some solid reviews for their first major challenge, as they handled the A-Rod-steroids story very well. I agree with the positive reviews.

The Pro Bowl happened, and it was as uninteresting as you’d imagine. Larry Fitzgerald did prove, once again, that he is the best receiver in football, bar none.

Joe Calzaghe retired undefeated as champion at 46-0. While Calzaghe never got the credit he deserved in the United States, he will go down as the greatest super-middleweight of all-time, and his accomplishments will stand up over time.

Michael Phelps was suspended for three months from competition – Ooohh. That should really cost him, now that he’ll miss the 2012 Summer Olympics. Oh, that’s right — those aren’t contested in the Spring of 2009. In other news, Kellogg told him that he smoked away his contract with them.

Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce will finally step in the ring together this weekend. The long anticipated matchup should provide some fireworks, but in the end, look for Darchinyan to be the only one standing.

Matt Cassel got himself a franchise tag, which will A) make him rich, and B) return him to his rightful spot holding a clipboard. Not that he’s not good enough to play for several teams, there’s just something funny about a guy who’s only been the starter for one year since high school making this much money to once again not play.

All of the Barry Bonds positive urine test evidence may not make it to court, as the judge said she may toss the evidence out. Apparently if you can’t link the urine to the person, you can’t convict him.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell examines just how much Michael Phelps stands to lose with his awesome bong-hitting decision.

Tiger Woods doesn’t tip. Not “doesn’t tip well,” doesn’t tip.

Speaking of ridiculous amounts of money, the New York Mets resigned left-hander Oliver Perez to a three-year, $36 million deal. That’s not bad for a career 55-60 pitcher who peaked at 23 back in 2004. But hey, if going 10-7 with an ERA over four won’t double your salary these days, what will.

I don’t know if you heard about this, but the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl. Hell of a game. The Cardinals certainly proved themselves worthy opponents, but when they were trying to win, the Steelers were just that much better. If they didn’t mail it in for seven minutes of the fourth quarter, it would have been ugly. Luckily, that guy from House coached to lose and we got ourselves a classic.

Starting off one of the biggest sports days of the year, Rafael Nadal may have unofficially put an end to Roger Federer’s career. It was an amazing run that he had, but not only can he no longer physically keep up with the younger Spaniard, he’s mentally beaten every time he steps on the court with Nadal. Perhaps we’ll get a few more classics this year, but that will be about it.

Bobby Knight may be returning to the college sidelines at Georgia. Shouldn’t they really be interviewing Knight’s son to see if that’s who they want coaching them when Bobby walks away in two years?

Antonio Margarito and his trainer have been suspended by the California State Athletic Commission, pending the results of just what his illegal foreign object was in his gloves.

Jon Gruden is ready to coach again, even if it means coaching high school or flag-football.

The UFC is opening their own line of gyms. Do you think it will be full of old, washed up gym goers who you are tired of seeing, all the while they’re telling you how hip and fresh said old guys are? Hey, at least Dana White is getting into something he actually has experience in.

Did Aaron Heilmann actually get traded twice this offseason? Are there really two teams in baseball that actively decided to acquire this man?

So how does one make claims about contact with an agent if he’s your brother? I’m in no way suggesting anything improper, but just curious as to what the protocol would be here.

Since I consider this an all-inclusive sports web site, I feel it is my duty to report to you that Jose Canseco and Danny Bonaduce “fought” to a three-round draw this weekend. I’m sure you already know this, since I can’t imagine that you didn’t buy the pay-per-view, but I figured I’d mention it anyway. Hey, at least Canseco didn’t get knocked out this time.

This has been a rough month for the New York Knicks’ Eddy Curry. After getting sued by his former driver for allegedly making sexual advances at him and pointing a gun at him (among other things), Curry was informed after Saturday nights game against Philadelphia that his ex-girlfriend and her daughter were shot and killed in Chicago, and his three-year old son witnessed it. Say what you will about the ex-driver fiasco, nobody should have to ever get that phone call.

Jeff Fisher told Kerry Collins that he wants him back as the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback next year. How’s that franchise QB Vince Young working out for you, Titans?

Joe Torre’s new book, “The Yankee Years”, should be a doozy. Among other things, the book talks about the players referring to Alex Rodriguez as “A-Fraud” and says that he was obsessed with his rivalry with Derek Jeter. This should be interesting.

In case you missed it, Shane Mosley absolutely dominated Antonio Margarito this weekend, and we also found out that Margarito may have had an illegal foreign object in his hand wraps. This too, should be interesting.

After way too much back-and-forth, the Manny Pacquiao – Ricky Hatton fight is now back on for May 2. Until Pacquiao demands another inch in height or something else ridiculous.

Joe Calzaghe is planning to fight his final fight at home in Cardiff. Nothing is even close to done, but the word around campus is that he is looking at a rematch with Bernard Hopkins, or a fight with Winky Wright or Chad Dawson. All solid fights, but if he wins, one of the other two will surely want next.

HBO is planning on making the Shane Mosley/BALCO scandal front and center during this weekend’s telecast of Mosley’s fight with Antonio Margarito.

A Texas high school girls basketball team won 100-0 last week, and is now offering to change the outcome to a forfeit, on a count of the terrible sportsmanship their coach and team exhibited. Apparently the team was still using a full court press and launching 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

The Big Lead offers up a solid interview with Arizona State alum Al Michaels.
