While most of the baseball world was focused on the part where Alex Rodriguez admitted to taking banned substances during his Texas years, there were quite a few eyes and ears that were focused on the reporting of the story. Selena Roberts, Peter Gammons, Bob Costas, ESPN and the MLB Network (among others) were on display this weekend. Some did better than others.
HBO wasted no time in filling in the gap left by the departure of Bob Costas, as the cable network inked Joe Buck to a deal that will have him doing four shows a year.
Costas left HBO for the MLB Network, killing Costas Now in the process. Buck will be doing some type of [...]
Bob Costas is leaving HBO for a new television station – the MLB Network, a network that is barely a month old, in order to call some play-by-play and handle other on-air duties for the new channel.
Costas had been the host of the aptly named Costas Now on HBO, as well as hosting various events [...]
You’re already familiar with ESPN’s “Spaceballs” style of branding and marketing, featuring ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPN Classic, ESPNU, ESPN Radio, ESPN.com, ESPN the Magazine, and probably a few I’m forgetting. But who knew they could just keep on going? How about ESPN the High School?
That’s right, ESPN is partnering with the Department of [...]
I know that tennis fans are in the minority when it comes to ESPN’s demographics. I know that the tennis majors get so much airplay at ESPN because they are on in the middle of the night. That’s OK with me because they’re still on.

I’ve sat by for a few days, looking over [...]
Tim Tebow turned in a solid game, but far from his best, in the BCS title game against Oklahoma, earning him the most outstanding player award, and somewhere along the way, the key to Thom Brennaman’s heart.
In today’s edition of journalists acting inappropriately, a Detroit News columnist by the name of Rob Parker probably lost his credentials and sooner or later, his job.
In the wake of the Detroit Lions falling to 0-15, Parker was questioning Marinelli about the job that his son-in-law, Joe Barry has done as defensive coordinator.
Marinelli defended Barry’s [...]
We are now at the mercy of the Worldwide Leader when it comes to all things sports. As frustrating as that is simply as a sports fan, there is even more to this as a consumer, and perhaps should be garnering as much interest from the non-sports fan.
The BCS officially reached an agreement with ESPN for the Worldwide Leader to broadcast the BCS games for the next five years. The deal is reportedly worth about $125 million a year for a grand total of $500 million.
This move will put the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl all on cable television, [...]
